Emmett has written about photography and photographic pioneers, including Clem Albers, the unsung San Francisco Chronicle photographer of Japanese American internment.  Her doctoral dissertation on the “archetypal” news photograph was nominated as the best social science dissertation of 2012 by the Philip Merrill College of Journalism.  She has taught web design and graduate online journalism at University of Hong Kong Journalism & Media Studies Centre, Widener University, and Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia (click here for samples).

Emmett collaborates with Dannell MacIlwraith, chief designer of Dannell Designs, on marketing communications and websites for business.  In 2013 she and MacIlwraith completed a redesign of the website for the International Tourism Studies Association, which featured many of Emmett’s outstanding China photographs.
